March Madness

No, this post isn’t about the NCAA basketball tournament…just the chaos and crazy, or “madness” if you will, of our ever day lives…and I wouldn’t have it any other way! March went by way too fast because we stayed busy! Here were our favorite moments of March.

Spring has arrived!

The warm weather in Arkansas is pretty much here to stay! While it may be chilly in the mornings and evenings, most days it gets up to the high 60s or low 70s. The kids have been LOVING it. We’ve played in the yard a lot, had picnics, and explored some new parks.

Colorado Vacation

I already posted about our Colorado vacation, but this was definitely a major highlight of our month. We had the best vacation with Ryan’s whole family in Colorado Springs in mid-March. We did so many fun activities and always had an amazing view of the mountains. We definitely want to make it back to Colorado again someday.

Random Sweet Moments

My kids definitely like to explore and go places every so often, but overall they are homebodies like me, and love to just play at home. Ryan was on his OB rotation this month, so he worked long hours at night, so the kids and I had a lot of quality time just the 3 of us. I always try to document the random little moments where the kids do something sweet or unique…especially when the kids are getting along so well without me coordinating it. Kinsie will “read” books to Brax, or Brax will line up all his cards to make a long “choo-choo,” or the kids will snuggle extra close to me when they are scared of a thunderstorm. I try to savor these moments because I know they won’t last forever!

Pinnacle Mountain

Ryan and I hiked Pinnacle Mountain when we came to visit Arkansas before he made his rank list last year. It was a great hike with a beautiful view, and we’ve been wanting to take the kids ever since. We finally got the opportunity, and we had a great time! Kinsie was an absolute CHAMP and hiked the whole thing by herself. Brax rode in the hiking backpack and was not happy about it at first…he wanted to do it himself too! He eventually gave up and just had fun riding in the backpack with his Daddy. The kids loved the view and they didn’t want to leave the top of the mountain!

Family for Easter

We haven’t seen my sister’s family since Christmas, so we were all counting down the days until they were going to visit us for Easter weekend. My parents were coming too, so we were excited to see everyone. We had the best weekend with everyone! The kids had fun together no matter what they were doing. We played outside, went to the zoo, went to my church’s Easter egg hunt, and much more. These pictures show the joy and fun these 5 had together more than I can really explain…

We loved getting to spend time with both of our families this month. It always fills our buckets when we get to see family. We have adjusted to living here, and finally are starting to feel more established, but being away from family is still by far the hardest part, and I don’t know if I’ll ever completely get used to it. That’s why we savor our moments we do have with them. Still, we are really enjoying living here, and when I see pictures and videos of my kids, I truly feel that they are happy, and that’s what matters most.

Here is our “One Second Everyday” video for March…enjoy!

One Fine February

I can’t believe it is already March tomorrow. Usually January and February DRAG on, but this year it hasn’t seemed near as bad. Our winter months here in Arkansas haven’t exactly been sunshine and super warm temps, but they were definitely more mild than what I am used to in Indiana, which was very helpful to help us adjust. Overall, it hasn’t really been play outside weather, but we’ve had a handful of really nice days. The last few weeks we’ve had a TON of rain…our backyard was a giant mud pool. But now the warmer weather is starting to peek out, and we are loving it! February wasn’t super eventful, but we did have some visitors, a fun Valentine’s Day, and some fun outdoor adventures.

Costumes, coloring, and play-dough…oh my!

Like I said, we did have to spend a significant amount of time inside. Luckily we love our house and have lots of things to do in it, so we definitely stayed busy! We watched lots of Disney movies, (especially Moana…both the kids’ obsession…or as Brax calls it, “Na-Na”) we read hundreds of books, did lots of art and coloring activities, played dress up, had lots of dance parties, and more. Even though sometimes I would rather be outside or find things outside of the house to do, I love seeing the kids be creative and use their imagination while they play. Kinsie loves teaching Brax different things, and he loves learning from her. They both love to read, and often bring us book after book after book to read, which can be exhausting, but I love that we’re instilling these habits into them while they are still so little.

Valentine’s Day Fun

I have never been a huge fan of Valentine’s Day…Ryan and I always thought it was overrated and didn’t want to spend money on flowers or gifts when we’d rather just get to spend time together. Most holidays change once you have kids, and Valentine’s Day is no exception. Kinsie loved everything about this holiday! We loved making Valentine cookies together. They may not have looked perfect, but they tasted good and we had a blast making them. Kinsie also loved hand-making all her Valentines for her family and friends at school. We bought the kits to make her Valentines a few weeks before she actually needed them, and she wanted to start working on them right away! She did all of them by herself, including writing the names of each person she made a valentine for…I just had to help her spell the names. She was so proud of herself and couldn’t wait to pass them out to everyone. Brax enjoyed all the extra love and kisses on Valentine’s Day as well. The kids loved getting valentines from family and friends, and we hung them all up on our pantry door.

A Visit from my Parents

My parents have had this trip planned for over a month, and we couldn’t wait! They visited for about 4 days, and they were constantly loving on, hugging and kissing the kids. We had some great meals, had several dance parties, and took walks around the park when the weather cooperated. The kids loved having Papa and Yaya here to visit!

Outside Day

The last few days have been really nice, and since we were cooped up inside the house while it rained for several days straight, we were aching to be outside. Ryan had the day off on a Monday (and Kinsie doesn’t have school yet on Mondays), so we spent the entire morning at the zoo. After Brax’s nap, we spent the evening outside riding bikes, taking a walk around the park, and visiting with our neighbors. We spent almost the whole day outside on a random day in February, and we loved every minute of it. We are hopeful for more and more of these kinds of days in the near future.

We didn’t have a very busy month, but even so, I feel like a lot happened. I feel like I’m finally starting to grow some roots here. We found a church home that we love, and I even feel comfortable going by myself with the kids when Ryan’s not able to come. I started attending a Bible study for moms with young children, which has introduced me to many women who are in a similar season of life. Finally, I started a new job! I began working at a tutoring center, where I work with kids one-on-one who are academically behind to help get them back up to grade level. I’m really enjoying it so far, and it works out perfectly for our schedule. It’s nice doing something just for me, and getting some of my teacher fix that I’ve desperately missed. I’m so grateful that God has put all these opportunities in my lap, and that he gave me the courage to step out of my comfort zone a bit more to explore and find ways to help me feel more fulfilled. We still really miss being around family, but I have been working hard at meeting new people and finding new activities to help fill that void.

To finish my post, here is our “One Second Everyday” February video. Enjoy the laughing, dancing, yelling and wrestling that goes on in my household every day!

March is here!!

You guys…it’s finally March! This is such a big deal for me in many ways…I always LOVE when February is over and March begins. It means that the majority of winter is over, and spring is almost here! I also love March Madness, and 2 weeks off for spring break…and this March is especially important for our family. We find out in about 2 weeks where Ryan will get matched for residency! If you were to ask me a year ago how I felt about the possibility of moving to another state, I would have had a panic attack right there on the spot. I’ve prayed every single day about this to help me adjust to this idea and be excited for whatever adventure God brings us. I have come a LONG way, and now I truly am excited to find out what our future will look like…even if it means uprooting from my home in Indiana.

Now on to how our February was…it was busy! From ear infections to random beautiful weather, to a weekend trip to Arkansas…here is the breakdown of our past month.

Sick kiddos

Early in the month, Kinsie had a double ear infection. Poor girl missed a whole week of school, and eventually went to the doctor and was put on antibiotics. It was like having a newborn at night again…she would be up every few hours crying from ear pain. As soon as she started feeling better, Brax caught the bug too. Finally we got everyone healthy again for about two weeks, and then it came back around to Kinsie again! She is currently on a second round of antibiotics and we are praying that Brax doesn’t get it again too!

Valentines Day

Kinsie and I made homemade valentines this year for her class. She loved sitting down with me and putting together her ladybug valentines! On Valentines Day, Kinsie made heart cookies with Aunt Renata while Brax just enjoyed being a studly “eligible bachelor!”

Wagon Rides and Kisses

We had a few days of random beautiful weather in February…so we jumped at the opportunity to take the kids outside for some fresh air. Brax got to experience his first wagon ride. He loved the ride and Kinsie loved having a buddy.

Visiting Abuelita

My sweet grandma has been in an assisted living for a couple months now, and I finally got the chance to go visit her with my dad. I decided to keep the kids at home with Ryan so I could just have some quality relaxing time with my dad and grandma. We took her out for ice cream and she loved it! It was a great day seeing one of my favorite people in the world!

Arkansas

Out of all of Ryan’s interviews that he went on, Arkansas was one of his favorite places. He loved the program, and the area. Since he knew he wanted to rank it pretty high on his list, he wanted me to get a chance to see it too. We took a weekend trip just the two of us. We loved exploring the beautiful city and imagining it being our future home. Grandma Bev watched the kids for us, and they had a blast too!

Other Random Indoor Fun

Like I’ve mentioned before, when it’s winter and you have a small house with limited playing space…you have to be creative with your kids to keep them entertained. We made a clubhouse out of a cardboard box, had laundry basket rides, played “Troll Trouble,” took trips to the store to ride the horse, and lots more. Kinsie has been obsessed lately with learning how to write her letters, as well as drawing things like dinosaurs. Tic-tac-toe is one of her new faves too. And as always, the kids love it anytime they get to have cousin playdates!

I am SO excited that it is finally March! We have a lot happening this month that I can’t wait to find out more about and share it with you! Happy (almost) Spring!

Hello, 3rd Trimester!

How am I already in my third trimester? This pregnancy is flying by quicker than I could ever imagine. I can’t believe we are only 3ish months away from meeting our little man! It honestly still seems kind of far away though, mainly because my body feels much farther pregnant than 28 weeks, but with how quickly the time has gone by so far, I will probably blink and May will be here! I’ve been much more antsy lately about meeting him, probably because our good friends from our life group (who have a daughter Kinsie’s age) just had a little boy about 2 weeks ago. My sister and I got to take his newborn photos, and we could have snuggled with him all day! It really made me anxious to hold my own baby again. I mean, let’s face it…we are lucky to catch and pin Kinsie down long enough to snuggle with her for a few seconds these days!

B2-28 weeks-1

How I’m feeling:

I am still feeling pretty well, but definitely having more trouble each day moving around, and still very tired. I feel like I had about 2 weeks of this pregnancy where my energy level was pretty good, and other than that, I’ve been exhausted all the time! Oh, and remember how last month I said I didn’t have back pain yet? Well, that changed! Back pain has been quite an issue the last few weeks. It is very hard to get into a comfortable position when sitting or laying down. Because of that, I haven’t been sleeping great…but I guess that’s God’s way of preparing me for what’s to come again! It has helped to sleep with a pillow in between my knees, and as long as I don’t overdo it during the day, the pain is uncomfortable, but bearable. While I’m more of a warm weather gal anyway, I am especially anxious for spring because I really haven’t been able to breathe well since around November. My nose is stuffy constantly, and then I’m out of breath from pregnancy so I just always feel like I am gasping for air! Let’s hope some warm weather will fix this issue soon! Like I said last month, I really can’t complain too much because both of my pregnancies so far have been great, and I am still so blessed that I am getting to experience the miracle of pregnancy.

Baby Movement:

This baby boy is still constantly on the move, and his movements get stronger every day. While I have always loved feeling him move, I am more grateful for it now than ever. This is because of a little scare I had last week. I hadn’t felt him move for about 7 hours one day, which is extremely unusual for him. I was terrified so my teaching partner covered my class, and I left work early to go to the doctor and get checked out. Luckily my mom was available to come with me since Ryan was at work. They hooked me up to monitors and we soon heard his strong heart beat and cried happy tears! The night before, I had very strong Braxton Hicks contractions, so the nurse practitioner guessed that he made some big position shifts that night and was in a position where I couldn’t really feel his movements. I really didn’t feel him much that entire day, but the next day he was back to his old self, kicking like crazy! It was very scary, but everything was fine and I am especially grateful now for every little kick in the ribs I get!

Size:

When I went to the doctor last week, the nurse said I was measuring about 2 weeks early. However, when I went for my 28 week checkup today, I was measuring right on schedule. I’m guessing he was just stretching out last week? According to my pregnancy apps, right now he should be about 2.5 pounds and the size of an eggplant. However, I am still feeling significantly larger with this pregnancy. As I compare pictures, I think right now I look about what I did at 32 weeks with Kinsie. Even within the last few days, I have had several comments about how much bigger my belly looks…another growth spurt I guess! Something tells me this boy is not going to be quite as petite as Kinsie was at birth!

What else we’ve been up to this month:

We have had some crazy weather patterns the last few weeks. We’ve had some really warm days (like last weekend), and then we’ve had quite a bit of snow (like the weekend before). We took Kinsie sledding for the first time, and she was a fan as long as she went down “baby hills.” Ryan tried taking her down a bigger hill, but she said it was too fast, and the wind blew snow on her face so she wasn’t too fond of that! Still, she has been loving the snow this year. She loves to just walk around and explore, and eat the snow! Last weekend was 70 degrees and beautiful! We spent most of the afternoon outside and Kinsie ran around screaming with glee the whole time. Ryan, baby boy and I enjoyed ourselves outside as well!

Baby boy enjoying the sunshine too 🙂

We are still working on potty training. She has some really good weeks, then some weeks where it is a major struggle. Ultimately, we are making progress. Being able to let her run around with just panties on definitely helps the process!

Feb_iphone_82

Ryan is in his Internal Medicine rotation, which doesn’t have too bad of hours, but he still works 6 days a week and every few nights he has a late shift. When he’s home, he tries to multi-task by spending time with us while studying. This usually works out ok for him, but lately Kinsie has turned him into her own personal jungle gym. She climbs and hangs all over him which probably doesn’t make it easy for him to study! He is always a good sport about it though!

Feb_iphone_18

We recently got to go to a birthday party for our good friend’s son who turned one last weekend. He had a Mickey Mouse party, so Kinsie was pumped. She got her face painted with a matching balloon animal, and even had a visit from Mickey. This Mickey wasn’t quite the “Disney World” Mickey that she met recently, so Kinsie was a little skeptical and wouldn’t go near him unless we were right by her, but she still had a blast! Any chance to get out of the house and be somewhere new is always good during the winter. She hasn’t wanted to nap the last few weeks, which has been hard on me because I have been relying on her nap time to take a nap myself during the weekends. I don’t know if she just not getting enough energy out since she’s inside all the time, or if she is ready to give up naps completely. I am REALLY not ready for her to be done with naps, so I’m praying that that’s not the case just yet!

Well, that’s about it for now. More updates next month as our girl turns 2 and a half!
